Emily teaches in-person and online private lessons in violin, viola, and piano.

EMILY’S TEACHING PHILOSOPHY:

I believe that every one of my students is different. Each one has a unique motivation and musical goals and should be taught accordingly. I started playing violin at 3 and piano at 5 and received a conservatory training in violin, so I feel very comfortable working with/pushing students who want to take this to a professional level.

However, I recognize that the majority of young musicians are doing this for different reasons, which include having a simple love for music, a means of expression or therapy, interest in developing a new skill for a more varied education, or maybe as a support for an orchestra class at school with the goals to achieve placement in a higher orchestra or be accepted into Region or All-State. Whatever the reason for these lessons may be, I believe that music is for everyone. I strive to teach each of my students according to his/her individual goals and needs and to push or relax when needed. Some students like to play for themselves and others like to perform and compete. All are welcome here.

I have been teaching private lessons for about 20 years and although I received a strict education myself, I have learned that projecting the same onto everyone can create a resentful response in some students. My goal is to help each and every student love to learn and to achieve their own unique goals.
